About Paamul and Copal Retreat Centre:
Paamul is a small, quiet beach community about an hour south of Cancun. It is very easy to get to by taxi or shuttle bus. Cancun is a short 4-5 hour flight from Vancouver. There is a 3 hour time difference. (Same as Toronto time) I discovered Paamul through some friends who have built a house there and are winter residents. While visiting them I found the retreat centre Copal Retreat. http://www.copalretreat.com. I was impressed with the beauty of the house, the quality of the food and serenity of the environment. I instantly knew this was the place I had been searching for.
Paamul is close to Puerto Aventuras, Tulum, Playa del Carmen and Akumal. The area is full of interesting and fun things to do - from visiting Mayan ruins and the amazingly diverse Cenotes, to Salsa dancing in the evenings. Paamul itself is quiet. There are a group of small houses built mostly by expats; a small hotel; a restaurant with a lovely beach; a dive shop and a community hall (open air) which hosts a market once a week as well as music events and classes. There are no large resorts or developments. The snorkelling and diving are excellent. The reef which runs from Cancun all the way to Belize, is the second largest in the world next to the Great Barrier Reef. Janet, the owner of the retreat, provides bikes and SUP boards, Kayaks and snorkel gear. There is a beautiful, long, empty beach about a 5 minute bike ride away. The retreat includes 2 excursions to Tulum ruins and a Cenote, as well as a 1 hr massage. Retreat guests are welcome to participate or not in whatever is offered. Some people simply want to use their free time for relaxation and introspection. Others may want to explore and be more active. This is your time, to use as you desire.
With special guest instructor Rachel Scott!
Rachel is a remarkable teacher and educator who has an amazingly diverse background and I am thrilled and honoured that she is sharing this retreat journey with me. She has over over 4000 hours as a Yoga teacher trainer and for years ran the Yoga College at YYoga, developing their teacher training program. She is a writer, singer and actor in addition to her other talents and her classes are full of remarkable insight, laughter and stories. She will be providing hands on assists and support for the group and certain to share her wit and extraordinary energy.
On the evening of Sunday, Nov 4th, once everyone has arrived, there is a welcoming ceremony from a local Shaman and musicians. It is a beautiful and joyous experience. Following that is our first dinner. The food is prepared by a wonderful local chef and dietary needs will be taken into consideration. It is important that we are well aware of any dietary needs beforehand so please let me know. Our Yoga schedule can be altered for the needs of the group but this is the daily schedule.
6:30 - 7 am - Meditation practice for anyone who would like to participate
7- 8:30 - Sunrise Yoga - morning Flow
8:45 - Breakfast
12 - Lunch
Afternoon free time or excursion
5:00 - 6:30 - Sunset yoga - most likely Yin/restorative
6:45 - Dinner
Evenings - TBD - possible trips to Playa for music and Latin dancing. Chilling with books. Star gazing etc.
On the morning of Sat Nov 10th - there will be a morning practice before people leave.
Yoga takes place on a large open air patio overlooking the ocean. From the patio we can see the sun rise and the sun set. It is a stunning vista. We need to practice early as it gets warm quite quickly - however - there is definitely the option for Pool Yoga!! As well as SUP Yoga as well as Beach Yoga - so there really are no limitations!
If you have any questions at all, please feel free to contact me. Mexico is one of my favourite places. I have been going to different places for 20 years - probably at least 15 trips. I love the people, the food and the glorious weather! I would love to talk to you about this wonderful opportunity. My email is firstname.lastname@example.org and my phone # is 604 916 6524. Happy to share more details with you and would be thrilled to have you join us for an exquisite week in this unique place in Mexico.
What is the Focus of the Retreat?
November brings warm, crystal clear water to the Mayan Riviera. The clarity of the sea leads us deeper into our own awareness and the sweetness that resides there. Join us in magical Paamul as we prepare for the chilly months ahead with a nourishing practice of self care and joy. Let’s face it, for most of us, the time leading out of a busy summer and fall can become a little heavy and grey as the days shorten and the cold descends. During this week we will stoke the tropical fire within and take time for introspection and release. The practice will be a mix of Yin and Yang, Action and Restorative. This will be one delicious week and you will AHHHHHHHHH yourself all the way home and through the winter. All levels welcome.
